During pregnancy, a woman’s body has to go through  dramatic changes on a physical, chemical and emotional level. These changes occur to support the growth of your baby and the function of your body. “How your spine moves and how your weight is distributed through the body will be one of the physical changes as your baby grows. This can cause extra stress on muscles, ligaments, joints, vertebrae, and discs.” explains Justin, the founder of The Right Chiro.

As your pregnancy develops it increases stress on your lower back due to your belly going forward. All this stress can negatively affect the function of your spine, which can cause interference in the function of your nervous system.

This can cause added stress on your baby as it grows in your womb and can inhibit your baby from being in its most optimal position for birth. 50% of women experience more than just some sort of pain during their pregnancy. The most common symptoms of pregnant women include:

Regular chiropractic care during your pregnancy helps with the function of your spine and your nervous system. This will support rather than interfere with your muscle function and the proper growth of your baby. Naturally, when your body is functioning better and you know your baby is receiving the best support from your body it can, you feel less discomfort and stress. Melanie, one of our chiropractors often says to pregnant mothers: “Your healthy nervous system, as a mom, will have a lifelong impact on the health of your baby.”

Research has shown that pregnant women under chiropractic care have a reduction of these symptoms by up to 85%. Further research on breech birth scenarios has shown that women under chiropractic care with a breech baby have an 82% success rate in getting the baby into the correct position for delivery. Research related to the timing of a pregnancy has shown that pregnant women regular chiropractic care can shorten labour by 24% in a first time mum and 33% with the second child.
